The Tejas single-seat, single engine, light weight, high agility supersonic fighter aircraft has undergone test flights in preparation for the game running in mid-2005 and had flown over 400 flights of a speed of Mach 1.4. Tejas light combat aircraft design and development program is being led by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of the Department of Defense of India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as the main contractor.



Texas, the smallest lightweight, versatile, single-engine tactical fighter aircraft in the world, is being developed as a single-seat fighter aircraft for the Air Force of India and also as a two-seater training aircraft. It is estimated that the Air Force of India will have a total requirement of about 200 single-seat combat aircraft Tejas and 20 two-seat trainers Texas.



The maiden flight of the first demonstrator Texas was in January 2001. In April 2006 the production of 20 Texas was approved by the April 2007, India government.In first production aircraft had its inaugural flight.Tejas is scheduled to achieve initial operational capability (IOC) in 2008 and enter into service in 2011.
